How to deal with job and workplace stress?
We are all familiar with workplace related stress, be it meeting of deadlines, working overtime or anything else. It is not always possible to manage job related challenges and the best way out is to learn how to cope with them. If you too are suffering from such stress, here are some tips that can help:
- Identify stressors and develop positive responses: There can be numerous things that stress you—the traffic en route, low salary, work overload, deadlines, troublesome colleague, etc. Take note of them and learn to deal with them without getting stressed. Like, listening to music might help while you’re caught in the traffic, soft skills in communication can avoid fights with colleagues at workplace etc.
- Maintain boundaries: Learn to complete tasks within the stipulated time. The easy way to get stressed is carrying your work home. Learn to say no when you know taking on more work would mean overdoing.
- Breaks: Take breaks between stretched hours of work. Take a walk, listen to music, or you can do ‘desktop yoga’ which is beneficial for those sitting and working on their computers for long hours.
Finally, develop healthy habits. Instead of staying up late browsing social networks, get some sleep. Drink plenty of water every day. Avoid smoking and excessive consumption of coffee and alcohol. Exercise regularly and avoid things that aggravate stress as much as you can. For the things you can’t avoid, learn to handle them like a pro without getting your BP up.
